Masks and Soaps Provided to Tribal People of Remote Region to Prevent Covid-19 Infection

16 May 2021, Malkangiri district, Odisha

The second wave of Covid-19 pandemic has hit India severely. The pandemic has especially come hard on the rural areas and the hinterlands of the country. This situation is also reflected in the remote areas of the Malkangiri district of Odisha. The main concern is that people are not even aware of the pandemic and hence, are not taking the required preventive measures to protect themselves from this disease. Use of masks and repeated hand washing are proven non-pharmaceutical methods to prevent contraction of the Coronavirus. In view of this, Social Xleration organized a mask and soap distribution drive across the various villages of Chitrakonda block of the Malkangiri district on 16 May 2021. The villages reached were Resettlement Colony-10, 11, 19, Nuaguda, and Tatmanguda. As part of this drive, 3,500 reusable cloth masks and 1000 soap were distributed among tribal populace. Awareness sessions were held and proper methods of wearing the mask and hand washing were also demonstrated.
