20 May 2020, New Delhi, Mumbai, and Malkangiri

The COVID-19 Pandemic has hit the world hard bringing the life to a grinding halt. In India, there is a large-scale endeavor to control the spread of the pandemic along with helping the infected to recover. With the onset, there’s a repeated assertion by health experts urging people to wash their hands using a soap multiple times a day and wear masks any time, they step out of their homes. Masks have been found and proven to minimize the chances of contracting the COVID-19 disease.

Doing its bit to help fight the pandemic, Social Xleration distributed masks to less-advantaged in New Delhi, Mumbai, and Odisha over the months of April and May 2020. In New Delhi, Social Xleration partnered with the Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi and made 100,000 disposable masks available to people in Nehru Vihar and Ambedkar Nagar areas. In Mumbai, 1,500 cloth masks were provided to residents in the Mankhurd area, which has been hit hard by COVID-19. The effort was not limited to New Delhi and Mumbai, but also in the Malkangiri district of Odisha among the tribal communities. The Social Xleration team distributed 3,000 cloth masks and an equal number of soaps in six villages of Chitrakonda block of Malkangiri district. The villagers were made aware of the importance of using the masks and were given demonstrations of the proper way of handwashing using a soap.
