Social Xleration Observes World AIDS Day with Truckers and Rural Population of Uttar Pradesh

Every year, the 1st of December is observed as World AIDS Day. On the day, people across the globe display their support for people living with AIDS and those who lost their lives to AIDS-related illnesses. The theme for the year 2020 was Global Solidarity, Shared Responsibility. Social Xleration organized programs over the first two days of December 2020 to mark World AIDS Day.  The first event was held at a major Truckers’ site at Annapurneshwari Dhaba in Mohanlalganj, around 30 km from Lucknow on 1 December 20202 with truckers, who are a high-risk group while the second event was organized the next day at Composite School of Sonauli in Bankodar block of Barabanki district with the local populace.

The major points discussed during these programs were how to prevent oneself from Reproductive Tract Infections (RTIs) and Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) and HIV/AIDS, major symptoms, the ill impacts of the disease, major routes of disease transmission, the importance of Safe Sex (correct and consistent use of contraceptive), treatment and management of disease once infected, eradication of stigma and discrimination. Both the programs were received positively by the participants and they displayed keen interest. They posed a series of questions to clear their doubts, which were addressed to their satisfaction by the resource person.
