With a view on raise consciousness on the vital issue of maintaining cleanliness in the immediate as well as larger environment, Social Xleration put together an awareness session on Swachh Bharat Mission on 28th February, 2021 at Sanauli Composite School in the Banikodar Block of District Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh. Around 30 villagers attended the session. The Mission’s key goal is to improve people’s overall quality of life in rural and urban areas by encouraging cleanliness, sanitation, and eliminating open defecation. It aims to improve sanitation in rural areas by introducing solid and liquid waste management activities as well as making gram panchayats Open Defecation Free (ODF), safe, and sanitized.
A detailed discussion was conducted on the Mission’s various elements, including household toilets, public toilets, solid waste management, and the open defecation-free protocol, among others. It was an interactive session, in which different case studies were shared and their existing behaviors were also unraveled. The Ministry of Education has launched Swachh Vidyalaya Programme under the Mission, which was also communicated to the participants. A pledge was administered to all the participants that they would follow all the aspects of the Mission and would also educate their family and fellow villagers about what they had learned.
