Social Xleration Celebrates International Women’s Day by Motivating Young Girls in Chitrakonda, Odisha

8th March 2018, Chitrakonda, Odisha

The eighth day of March is celebrated globally every year as International Women’s Day to honor women and their achievements across various walks of life along with their contribution to shaping progressive and equitable societies. The day also serves as a reminder of the unfinished agenda of providing all women an opportunity to realize their full potential.

Social Xleration celebrated the day by organizing an event on 8th March 2018 at SSD Girls High School for 500 young girl students in Chitrakonda block of Malknagiri district, which is located in the hinterlands of Odisha. Taking the message of International Women’s Day to young girls, the key people present on the occasion including local officials, teachers, and Social Xleration team members urged and motivated the girl students, majority of them from tribal communities, to find their voice and claim their space in the world and bring about positive change. They underlined the importance of education in achieving their dreams and aspirations. It was highlighted to the girl students that to attain their dreams, facing their fears was crucial and to persist despite the barriers and gender bias they may encounter.

Besides, it was also communicated that it is vital to strengthen their ability to support each other and enlarge their sphere of achievement. The program wound up with a serving of refreshments and best wishes to students for successful careers and lives.
