Social Xleration Equips Farmers with Weeder Machines and Markers to Promote SRI Cropping Technique

25 July 2018, Malkangiri District, Odisha

Social Xleration works to bring about improvements in agricultural practices with farmers in the Malkangiri district. As part of this, Social Xleration along with its partner Devcon India Foundation tapped the government scheme to avail weeder machines and markers for 50 farmers belonging to five self-help groups to cultivate paddy using the mechanized System of Rice Intensification (SRI) method in identified villages of Malkangiri district. In the SRI technique, a wide spacing of crops is very important. SRI markers help farmers in transplanting paddy seedlings at 10X10 inches spacing. A weeder machine helps the farmers in weeding between rows of paddy crop. The tools were provided to the farmers of Purnapani, Narsinghpur, Thatmanguda, RSC – 10, RSC – 11 and RSC – 19. Social Xleration with Devcon India Foundation promotes an alternative way of growing paddy, which is low-water and labour-intensive, popularly known as SRI by giving rice plants a more favorable environment, to get more output in an eco-friendly way.
