Social Xleration Holds Series of Livestock Vaccination Camps

28 December 2018, Malkangiri District, Odisha

Malkangiri district in Odisha is marked by undulating terrain and a high level of forested land with patches of plain land used by local farmers for cultivation. Alongside cultivation, animal husbandry is also practiced by the farmers, which supplements their far income. However, due to the remoteness of the district timely and adequate veterinary services are not available in the area, which results in the high livestock mortality rate, thereby causing loss to the farmers. In this backdrop, Social Xleration and Devcon India Foundation in coordination with Animal Husbandry Department organized a series of livestock vaccination camps in the month of December covering eight villages of the Malkangiri district to enhance bovine health in which more than 2,500 cattle were vaccinated benefitting 350 villagers. During the camps, the cattle were vaccinated and medicines were given to those in need of the same. The area has a paucity of veterinary professionals and medicine, which results in the high livestock mortality rate.
