18 June 2018, Malkangiri District, Odisha

In order to further strengthen the livelihoods of local farmers, 16,000 fingerlings were provided to 100 fish farmers along with 450 kg fish food in Chitrakonda block of Malkangiri district by Social Xleration along with Devcon India Foundation. The fingerlings were of Indian major carps comprising Rohu, Katla, Mrigal, Grass Carp and Silver Carp and were distributed in the villages of Purnapani, Narsinghpur, RSC- 10, RSC- 11 and RSC- 19 in Malkangiri district. It had come to notice that most of the fish cultivators do not feed their fish sufficiently as a result of which the growth of the fish was not up to the desired level. To enhance awareness among fish farmers, a training session was also held to inform them of proper feeding practices, ways to boost fish growth and to detect diseases among fishes. The initiative is becoming popular among the other villagers, who have evinced interest to take up fish farming.
