Social Xleration Takes Cudgels against Malaria by Organizing Awareness Session on World Malaria Day

25 April 2018, Chitrakonda, Malknagiri District

World Malaria Day (WMD) is observed annually across the world on 25 April to acknowledge the global efforts to combat and control the menace of Malaria. Malaria is a life-threatening disease, which is typically transmitted through the bite of an infected Anopheles mosquito and causes symptoms such as fever, aches, and nausea. Social Xleration with its partner Devcon India Foundation organized an event in Arangi village of Chitrakonda Block, Malkangiri district in Odisha as there is a high prevalence of the disease in the area. Malkangiri district, which is dominated by the tribal populace, is a hotbed of Malaria. During the event, the villagers were informed about the disease, how it spreads, symptoms, precautions, and treatment. They were also informed about anti-malarial drugs provided by the local health department. The proper way of using a mosquito net while sleeping was demonstrated to them. It underlined that the surroundings should be clean and free from water logging as it becomes a breeding ground for mosquitoes.
